Kick off Small Business Saturday with coffee and a book signing by Nebraska Author Jayme Sandberg at Cap and Co
(Scottsbluff, Neb.), Nov. 20, 2023 — Cappuccino and Company kicks off Small Business Saturday by hosting a book signing featuring Nebraska-based children's book author Jayme Sandberg and her newly released title “Total Solar Eclipse: A Stellar Friendship Story.”
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and inscription by Sandberg from 9 to 11 a.m. at the downtown coffee shop, located at 1703 Broadway in Scottsbluff. Shoppers in the market for two copies of the book will receive a unique Small Business Saturday deal: two paperbacks for $20 or two hardcovers for $40.
"When we learned Jayme would be in town visiting family for the holidays, we jumped at the chance to host her book signing,” said Angela Scanlan, owner of Cappuccino and Company. “We’re always looking for ways to bring our community together. I’m especially looking forward to this weekend in downtown Scottsbluff with Jayme’s book signing on Saturday and the Christmas parade on Sunday.”
Sandberg, a Wyoming native who lived in Gering from 2014 to 2019, had the idea for her book when she watched the 2017 total solar eclipse with family and friends in Scottsbluff.
“I started the day wondering what was so special about a total solar eclipse that so many people would travel specifically to rural Wyoming and Nebraska to see it,” Sandberg said. “I ended the day determined to help more people see totality—when the Moon completely covers the Sun.”
The 32-page book, published by It’s All stories LLC and illustrated by another Nebraskan, Kathleen Gadeken, captivates young readers with a relatable story of miscommunication and misunderstanding told from the Sun’s point of view. The tale also importantly serves as a helpful tool for parents and teachers preparing for the next U.S. total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
“Total Solar Eclipse: A Stellar Friendship Story” is Sandberg’s first book and she hit the ground running when it published this summer. She has logged a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, presented alongside renowned astronomers and eclipse experts, spoken at elementary schools, participated in signings including her book launch at Nebraska’s historic Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum, and even received well wishes from former First Lady Laura Bush.
“Mrs. Bush is a literacy advocate and a children’s book author I admire. I knew the path of totality would be going through her home state of Texas so I sent her my book as a small token of thanks for her inspirational work,” Sandberg said. “My publishing journey has been full of coincidences and unexpected experiences, each of which motivate me to stay the course.”
